It is the second most important city in Colombia, which makes it a tourist and investment destination. The El Poblado sector is one of the most representative and exclusive in the city. It is home to Parque Lleras with an endless number of restaurants and bars where you can taste the best dishes and local cuisine of the region or enjoy the nightlife thanks to its pubs and clubs, shopping centres such as El Tesoro and Oviedo, parks and shops of great variety and fine style.
For those who like art, the Museum of Modern Art houses contemporary works in the visual arts, cinema and architecture, while the Museum of Antioquia preserves approximately 120 paintings by the painter, sculptor and artist Fernando Botero. There is also the Parque Explora, an interactive museum that seeks to disseminate and appropriate science and technology. Another place to visit with the family is Pueblito Paisa, where you will not only learn more about the Paisa culture, but also learn more about the city and its culture. Leaving the city, visitors will find natural wonders to visit. Guatapé, a beautiful and picturesque city located near the Peñol reservoir, is a perfect place for those who like ecotourism and adventure, famous for its landscapes endowed with unparalleled beauty. In this magical place you can do various sports or nautical activities such as riding on tourist boats, kayaking and cable car flights. You cannot miss visiting the famous Piedra del Peñol and climbing to the top via its 740 steps to enjoy a 360-degree view and admire the splendor of the place.
Medellín is also known for the Flower Fair, which is held during the first week of August. It is a colorful festival where all the values of the Paisa culture are rescued and ends with the parade of silleteros, its main event, where the peasants decorate silletas alluding to different themes with the colors of all kinds of flowers. Another important event that takes place in the city are the fashion fairs: Colombiatex, an event for the garment manufacturing industry that is held in January and Colombiamoda, an event for fashion and textile designers that is held in July, both very important for the country and of great impact in the Latin American fashion circuit, exhibiting the work of national and foreign fashion designers.
Medellín offers its visitors variety and fun for people of any age who wish to learn a little more about the so-called Paisa culture, such as what is perhaps the most famous typical dish of Colombia (the Bandeja Paisa) and the most representative liquor of the region called Aguardiente.
